Generative AI (or “gen AI”) is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content—like text, images, audio, or code—based on the instructions you give it. Instead of just analyzing data, it learns patterns from huge amounts of existing content and then generates something new that fits those patterns.
How it works:-
- The model is trained on lots of examples (articles, images, code, etc.) and learns how they’re structured.
- When you give it a prompt (“Write a friendly email to a client”), it uses what it learned to produce new content that matches the pattern.
- It’s not “thinking” like a person; it’s recognizing patterns and statistically generating outputs.
What it can create:-
- Text: emails, articles, summaries, social posts, scripts.
- Images: illustrations, mockups, graphics from text descriptions.
- Audio/voice and short music clips.
- Video clips and explainers (often by combining text, image, and audio).
- Code: functions, scripts, simple apps, or debugging help.
There are important limitations to keep in mind. Generative AI can “hallucinate,” meaning it may invent facts, quotes, or sources that sound plausible but aren’t real, so it’s wise to double‑check important information. It doesn’t truly understand what it’s writing; complex logic or very niche topics can trip it up. Outputs can be biased or generic if prompts are vague, and you should avoid pasting sensitive personal or company data into public tools and be careful about copyright when using generated content.
